El Dorado, the 11th studio album issued by Colombian pop diva Shakira ios quickly rising to the top of the charts across Latin America. Argentina, Costa Rica and Chile are just three of the 37 nations around the world where the album has reached the number one position.
The album, which has been available to fans who wanted a sneak preview through the pre-order process since May 12, has 13 songs. Many of the tracks on Shakira’s new album are collaborations with other popular artists such as Carlos Vives, Prince Royce, Maluma, Nicky Jam and Black M.
As can be expected from a new album by one of the hottest pop divas these days, El Dorado began to make waves in social media with the single La Bicicleta, which boasts a very creative and visually appealing video. The song was recorded in the Caribbean region of Colombia along with Carlos Vives, and the video features dramatic vistas of Cartagena, one of the most majestic coastal cities in the world. La Bicicleta, which translates into The Bicycle in English, spent 25 weeks in the number one position of the Latin Airplay charts tracked by Billboard, and this was months before the release of El Dorado.
In the heels of the success of The Bicycle, the following hit features reggaeton artist Maluma. This collaboration was a major social media hit that reached one billion views in YouTube, which prompted Billboard to place it at the top of the Latin pop charts.
Thus far, the tracks released from El Dorado have featured a mix of musical genres such as reggaeton, vallenato and Latin pop. Shakira was also encouraged to sing bachata with Dominican artist Prince Royce in the single Deja Vu. All in all, this album features greater musical diversity.
Another song that has quickly risen to the top of the Latin music charts is Me Enamoré, in which Shakira tells the story of how she fell in love with her husband Gerard Piqué, who plays for the stellar Barcelona football club of the Spanish League. For Shakira, this single is a very personal story that sets the record straight about her relationship with the football star, which some people characterized as being conveniently staged to elevate the celebrity status of the couple.
