Lana Del Rey has finally announced the release date for her new album. Reportedly, Lana Del Rey will release an album entitled “Lust For Life” on July 21. Lana cryptically announced the date on her Twitter feed. Soon afterwards, Del Rey’s management confirmed the release date for this much-anticipated album. So far, the world has only heard one song from this record. Called “Love,” this song featured the inestimable talents of The Weeknd, a groundbreaking and controversial alternative R&B artist. We do have a few other details about the album. Reportedly, “Lust For Life” will feature a duet with Stevie Nicks.
It is a fairly bold move for Del Rey to release her new album in the heart of summer. Of course, this reclusive chanteuse is also taking a chance by calling the new album “Lust For Life.” After all, this is the exact same title used by Iggy Pop for his groundbreaking album-length collaboration with David Bowie. By naming her new album after a celebrated classic record, Del Rey is following in the footsteps of the Replacements, who named one of their albums “Let It Be.” This is a bold move but it signals confidence and willingness to experiment. Lana Del Rey has charmed millions of people with her winsome, beautiful singing and songwriting. I believe that she truly deserves more recognition for her excellent qualities.
At least some major news sources did note Del Rey’s recent release date announcement. Nevertheless, I hope and believe that Del Rey’s stature as an artist will grow with each passing year. Del Rey’s music career got off to a slow start. Now withdrawn, Del Rey’s demo album “Sirens” featured the singer singing fragile songs over a simple, acoustic backing. In admittedly embryonic form, these demos displayed the unique lyrical and melodic style that would later make Del Rey famous. Although this record was recorded in 2006, it was not leaked to YouTube until 2012. Although “Sirens” does not reach the heights of Del Rey’s official releases, it remains a fine addition to Del Rey’s body of work. I am tremendously excited about Del Rey’s new album. I have no doubt that this record is going to meet the expectations of Del Rey’s most loyal fans. There is something simply magical about Del Rey’s voice.
